Know how Lord Shiva got the name Bhimashankar?
On the basis of Shiva Purana, it is said that Kumbhakarna had a son named Bhima, who was known as Bhima, who was a giant demon. When he came to know that his father was killed by Lord Shri Ram, it was as if the flame of revenge had ignited in his body, he decided to take revenge from God, but he did not have enough powers to take revenge from God, for this he started doing penance of Brahma Ji and Brahma Ji was pleased with this penance and gave him the boon of victory, after this the demon Bhima started terrorizing. Troubled by his terror, all the Dev Gadhs went to Lord Shiva. Lord Mahadev was requested to kill the demon. Lord Shiva respected all the gods and agreed to their request and burnt the demon Bhima to ashes. Now Bhima demon was dead but to prevent such a terrible problem from arising here again, everyone requested Lord Shiva to reside here. Then Lord Shiva started living here in the form of Jyotirlinga named Lord Bhimashankar to respect all the gods and devotees. So in this way Lord Mahadev started being known as Bhimashankar.
